Stone Cold Roosters

Stone Cold Roosters

The Stone Cold Roosters performed at The Valley Stage Festival in 2011

A brainchild of Colin McCaffrey, The Stone Cold Roosters are a band that can strut, swing and rock across decades of American music with style. Classic country, Swamp-rock, Hillbilly-funk, Blues, Western Swing and Honky-tonk are just a few of the stops the Roosters make on their continental tour. Their debut CD Out Of The Woods won Country Album Of the Year from the Times Argus, and was hailed as “righteously old-fashioned” by Burlington’s Seven Days. Their second disc Anywhere West also won country album of the year in 2009.

Lead singer and founder Colin McCaffrey is a full time record producer and performer from East Montpelier. Originally from Westminster VT, Colin has become a ubiquitous presence in the Vermont music scene, performing on and producing award winning Vermont recordings. Colin lends his smooth voice and string wizardry to the best bluegrass, folk, swing and Americana music coming out of these Green Mountains. From the back roads of Vershire, VT Ted Mortimer plays lead guitar for the Roosters. A master of tone and twang, Ted brings a Rock & Roll edge to the band from his decades of experience as front man for his R&B/Blues band Dr. Burma. Ted’s years in the western United States also molded him into a solid country guitarist with an arsenal of vintage Telecasters and boutique amps to back it up.

Hailing from Jericho, VT Roy Cutler is a musician who happens to be a drummer. A great songwriter and crooner, Roy plays and sings with the intensity of Levon Helm and gives the Roosters a solid rhythmic drive to navigate the many musical back alleys the Roosters explore.

Casey Dennis plays the bass for the Roosters and seems to be Roy’s twin brother separated from birth. Together the two of them are an unflagging rhythm section. Casey also has years of experience in multiple musical styles. A past member of the Michael Hurley band and many bluegrass, rock and R&B outfits, Casey can play it all with a smile.

Fiddler Thal Aylward comes from Windsor, VT. Also a member of FryDaddy and Spy, Thal knows all the classic New England tunes and quite a few Western ones to boot. His rhythmic playing and improvisational fervor continue to amaze his band mates. Expect some fireworks from Thal.

Jim Pitman has become a household name in the Pedal Steel world. An engineer who designed electronic pickups for some of the best steel players in Nashville and beyond, Jim is also a brilliant Dobro and steel guitar player. His playing can be heard on countless records, and he frequently appears with Tammy Fletcher’s Mountain Girl and Jamie Lee and The Rattlers.

Chuck Eller is first and foremost an amazing keyboardist. A founding member of both Kilimanjaro and The Unknown Blues Band, Chuck is also a globally acclaimed studio engineer from Charlotte, VT. His studio has produced thousands of recordings over the past 15+ years, many of which we are sure you have heard. The Roosters are overjoyed to have him join the band, and will be on their best behavior for Chuck’s sake.
